Your initial appointment, as with any appointment in the practice, will begin with a detailed case history and assessment. During treatment your Osteopath will sit quietly with light contact to the head or other relevant areas of the body. Patients may experience different sensations such as an awareness of tension or sensitivity that eases as treatment progresses. Some experience warmth or a feeling of relaxation. An observer might note that nothing very much appears to be happening during the session but your Osteopath is tuned into very subtle changes in the body. Their stillness is not inaction or passive – they are very engaged with what is going on.
Cranial Osteopathy is a very gentle approach which makes it a popular choice for babies and children. Adults can equally benefit from this area of osteopathy particularly in times of high stress or tension.
A gentle approach shouldn’t be confused with being less intense. Treatment does not have to be firm to be beneficial. Depending on circumstance sometimes less is more to encourage health and recovery in the body.
