SPORTS MASSAGE
WHAT IS SPORTS MASSAGE THERAPY?
Sports Massage Therapy is an umbrella term used to describe a range of techniques to reduce muscle soreness and tension. It has numerous benefits which include improved range of motion, flexibility, blood circulation, and faster recovery.
Sports Massage, as the name suggests, is popular with the active population to reduce & manage injury and aid performance. However, you don’t need to be an elite athlete to benefit from the positive physiological and biomechanical effects of Sports Massage Therapy. In fact, you don’t need to be sporty at all!
Our treatments are a blend of

FAQS
WHAT TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS DOES A SPORTS MASSAGE THERAPIST NEED?
All our Sports Massage Therapists have completed training to a Level 5 standard; this is the highest qualification you can achieve as a Sports Massage Therapist. They have the anatomy, physiology, and biomechanical knowledge required to perform massage as a therapeutic treatment.
Our Sports Massage Therapists continually work on expanding their knowledge and skills, attending regular in-house and external CPD events and training.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPORTS MASSAGE & OTHER MASSAGE THERAPIES SUCH A SWEDISH, HOLISTIC, OR SPA MASSAGE?
You will be required to complete a case history with your sports massage therapist before treatment begins. This usually takes 10 – 15 minutes, so bear this in mind if this is your first appointment as it will take a little longer than a follow-up/returning appointment. Your therapist will do some assessments on the target areas and then begin treatment.
Sports Massage is a dynamic therapy. Be prepared to move around, change positions and work with your therapist in the session. Your therapist will need feedback and ask questions to better understand the problem.
If you are including Sports Massage into your training cycle or as part of a wider treatment plan involving other specialisms your therapist will discuss how to achieve your goals at the end of the session.
HOW LONG SHOULD I BOOK A SPORTS MASSAGE FOR?
The length of time will depend on the area(s) of focus and what you aim to get out of the session. If you are unsure please contact us prior to booking and we would be happy to discuss this with you.
CAN I TRAIN / GO TO THE GYM AFTER A SPORTS MASSAGE?
I HAVE A RACE COMING UP - IS IT A GOOD IDEA TO GET A MASSAGE PRE/POST RACE?
A pre race massage is best 1-2 days before your race day to ensure there is no post treatment soreness or heaviness that can impact performance. It is an opportunity to have some niggles attended to but save the deep, firm soft tissue work for after the race.
The timing of your post race massage will depend on the level of soreness you feel. It is advisable to book your massage no earlier than 24-48 hours post race. The aim of this is to aid recovery. Talk with your therapist beforehand about any pain or injury you sustained competing to help guide an effective treatment.
